re evictions
mountaindale the first eviction in 1976
the way to look at it is this
homeless people usually had a home
before homelessness
begins
it can only end when they have a home again
if ever
so i built me a stiebel
a hasidic term for a house of study
a studio in babylon which the natives
still call the city of angels
well
you see there were also the following
subsequent evictions
in new york rockaway park
& brooklyn
in los angeles after many attempts
from the weingart center for the the homeless
on san pedro street
when weingart owned it it was the del rey hotel
jack kerouac and his friends used to stay there
he also owned the stillwell hotel
to which i came ten years ago
under most peculiar circumstances
after the final eviction in the list above
but
that story
is for another time
perhaps
sure i have had to fight a number of times
to stay this time in this place
but the fact is that never in my life
(have i) lived this long anywhere
including the many homes of
my mother and father of blessed memory
with the coming of meschiach
may it be speedily and soon
in our lifetime
for the entire house of israel

by anyone
