Three of My Greatest Teachers

sit at the foot of our bed tonight

Rebbe Nachman of Breslov

Henri Beyle from Paris

and of all people

my fiercest rival Jewish poet

Mr. L. Cohen of Montreal Canada

who is said to spend

half the year in Los Angeles

They

seem rather pleased

and surprisingly

at ease with

one another

Between TIKKUN HAKLALI

DE L’AMOUR and

DEATH OF A LADY’S MAN

I might

still

play for a win

this time around

after all

I must have

learned something

after all

I decided to become happy

(a new idea Saint-Just once called it)

Rebbe says you gotta do

crazy things sometimes

to be happy

it aint called

la chasse a bonheur

for nuthin’

right lenny

coming across

boats running out even

if it takes a long long time
